PART ONE
Maria Callas - La Divina (A Film by Tony Palmer)
This documentary traces the career of Maria Callas, describing the tragedy - and above all, celebrating the triumphs - of this great singer. It has been possible to draw on archive material from Athens, Rome, Milan, New York and London. Interviews with contemporaries help document her career from her early studies in Athens to the self-imposed isolation of her last Paris years - tracing her rapid rise to stardom and her subsequent decline. It is a highly unusual portrait, which provides a unique insight into one of the most striking artistic lives of the twentieth century.
